Hi, I’m George, a computer engineer from Athens, Greece.
I’ve been building apps for Apple platforms for many years, mostly iOS and lately tvOS. Next to that I work on DevOps, and I run a local homelab.
Astrape
I’ve had an Apple TV since the second generation, back in 2011, and for most of that time getting my own movies to play on it properly was a fight: remuxing every file, fixing Dolby Vision profiles, converting audio tracks, repairing subtitles. So I built the player I always wanted.
Astrape plays your own movies and shows on Apple TV at full quality, with 4K, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, straight from wherever they live: SMB, NFS, Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, WebDAV, S3 and more. It’s on the App Store.
What I write about
- Apple platforms: iOS, tvOS and building apps for them
- Video: HDR, Dolby Vision, codecs and streaming
- DevOps and self-hosting
